What order do I need to pack in when moving house? Part 1
Posted on 05 Feb 2010
Over the next few weeks we will be publishing our guide to getting your home ready and packed for a stress-free move.
The most important rule in packing up your home, is to not leave packing to the last minute, start at least six weeks before your intended move date.
First things first - De-Clutter
Be ruthless - you may need friends or family to help you with this one! You have a number of options of how to dispose of un-wanted items:- either sell them at a car boot or garage sale, give items to friends or family (only if they want them though!), donate to a charity shop, freecycle them through your local Yahoo recycle group, sell them through the local free ads paper or online through Gumtree for instance, or as a last resort dispose of them at your local refuse tip (please be mindful though of putting usable items into landfill).
When de-cluttering, don't forget to look in the loft, attic, garage or shed, as these are often the places overlooked, and more often than not, used to store unwanted items in the first place!
Remember by reducing your belongings you will also be reducing the cost of your removal, plus you will not be cluttering-up your new home.
Part 2 will cover packaging materials - what you will need and why!
